Celia Stewart's Music Education Philosophy Presentation

I found Celia's presentation - her anecdotes and story as a music educator - really captivating. I'd heard her a couple of weeks prior on National Radio talking about the Christchurch Music School. She is the Director that made me sit up and take note of her views on early childhood and the child's first years of primary education with Music.


She showed one particular slide - "The fact that children can make beautiful music is less significant than the fact that music can make beautiful children."  Cheryl Lavender


The poster really echoes my philosophy to music education.


 I feel the Te Whaariki document is more accessible to Orff-Schulwerk than the NZ Curriculum document.

Celia's focus on 7 distinct aspects of music education.	The wider than simply utilitarian value of music education that seems to reinforce a current fetish for brain science (i.e. making the brain synapses work more efficiently or improving classifying, sequencing and processing of information).
