Fairy Tails

Claire Battersby's workshop on creative play has transformed the structure of my Junior School classes.

I've shamelessly lifted her structure from the workshop and have found myself adapting it as I go along.

The central tennent of her approach is that children's love of story will keep them engaged.  Sure enough after buying around $60 of toys, props and material, the children are captivated with the world of the make-believe.

Since the workshop, I've been focussing my attention on a unit of dance.  It's pretty free form so I'm adding structure, being careful to talk constantly about the language of dance and movement.

Her use of props (like the sequinned weighted pouches or the sheets of material) give rise to interesting creations by the children.
