Thank Your Lucky Stars

The Don McGlashan Concert in Devonport last night was so inspiring.

I was there!

Given that I'm working with the Year 3- 6 kids on garageband recordings of song, instruments and gathering found sounds, this was perfect timing.  The local imagery of Henderson Park in the opening line of "Lucky Stars" prompted me to speak to the kids of finding local sounds, things, imagery.

I was also encouraged in my letting rip with the kids and abandoning all self-consciousness about recording my voice, especially unusual sounds to add to the beatbox effects.  It freed them up from their own self-consciousness.

I also played my song for my son Jerome.  Their respectful listening and responses afterward were humbling.

Here are photos of the kids out and about the school grounds collecting found sounds to be used later in a composition using classroom instruments.
